Suggested Timeline

The following timeline will help you plan your visit to Washington, DC for Foundations on the Hill. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Elina Urli or Brian Flahaven.

January 2006

  • Register for Foundations on the Hill. Registration opens in early January 2006.
  • Plan Your Travel. Plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. on the morning of Tuesday, March 14 for a full day of events. Book your flights to:
    • Reagan National Airport (DCA) - closest to downtown Washington
    • Dulles International Airport (IAD) - about a $60 cab ride to downtown
    • Baltimore-Washington Int. Airport (BWI) - about an $80 cab ride to downtown. Tickets may be cheaper, but airport is farthest away from DC.
  • Plan Your Accomodations. Book your hotel room as early as possible. Click here for a list of hotels. In order to organize our bus schedule for March 15, please let Elina Urli (202/467-0408) know where you will be staying.

February 2006

  • Registration Deadline - February 28, 2006.
  • Start Scheduling Meetings. Fax a meeting request letter to the Washington, D.C. office of each of the Senators and Representatives you want to visit during Foundations on the Hill. Learn how to schedule meetings on Capitol Hill.
  • Finalize arrangements. Contact your airline and hotel to confirm your reservations.
  • Share Your Meeting Schedule. Send your meeting schedule to Elina Urli. This will help us ensure that key members receive visits and to avoid multiple meetings with the same Senators and Representatives.
  • Wednesday, February 22 - Foundations on the Hill Pre-Event Call. Join Council and Forum staff for a conference call on Foundations on the Hill. To register for the call, send an e-mail to govt@cof.org. Please put FOTH CALL in the subject line.
  • Promote Your Visit with Local Media. Don't forget to fax press releases and articles to your Senator or Representative's press secretary.

March 2006

  • Assemble Materials. Put together packets for your delegation and leave-behind folders for your members of Congress. Issue papers, talking points and sample packets will be available on this website.
  • Check the Weather Forecast. March weather in Washington, DC is very unpredictable. Make sure you pack accordingly!
